MIGRANT WORKER
POETRY
COMPETITION 2022
The migrant worker poetry competition seeks to celebrate and the literary talents of migrant workers in Singapore and provide them a platform for direct expression!
First held in 2014, the Migrant Worker Poetry Competition has quickly established itself as one of the key events in the cultural calendar in Singapore.
The event has grown significantly in its short history – in 2020, the event received entries from 160 migrant workers in Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, Tagalog, Bengali, Tamil and Punjabi, a sharp rise from 28 participants in the event’s first edition, who submitted poems in Bengali and Tamil only.
In 2022 the competition will continue to reach out to a larger group of migrant workers. We believe that this project has become particularly relevant given the continued special circumstances faced by low-wage migrants in Singapore as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
Our sponsors and partners include The Embassy of The United States in Singapore, The High Commission of Canada in Singapore, The Good Shop, and ThinkRaw.
